Believe it or not, instructional design is an important part of the daily operations of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. As the largest training facility in the FAA, training is provided to Air Traffic Controllers, technicians, and operators who support the US National Airspace System.
The design of course materials and presentation of objectives are only parts of the overall effort. As stewards of tax payer dollars, forecasting and managing complex budgets are required to fund large training initiatives. To achieve success on all fronts, instructional design is blended with project management to provide a standard, but still flexible, workflow with measurable, scheduled milestones, quality checks, communication strategies, and risk management. In this workshop, Dotti will share goals, methods for developing standards, and assets created. In addition, she will discuss the benefits the Agency has realized as a result.
